Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical, the feel good West End and Broadway smash hit musical has rolled into North Wales at Venue Cymru, Llandudno this week staring Darren Day as Tick.
Based on the movie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a heart warming, uplifting adventure of three friends who hop aboard a battered old school bus searching for love and friendship on their travels from Sydney to the outback of Alice Springs, Australia.
With an age restriction of 16 years plus to see the show while watching it you can see why. The language can be at times a little blue and also the innuendo and putdowns can be somewhat to the knuckle for some people. This however does not put the show down in any disrespect as anyone that knows even just half of what the show is about then to make it as true to life as possible these actions are needed.
Simon Green plays the role of one third of the trio as Bernadette, the older, wiser drag artist whose character is the backbone to the three with a been there, done that attitude. Bernadette has a brilliant side plot in the show with the emergence of Bob played by Philip Childs.
The role of Adam (Felicia) is played by Adam Bailey who brings a youthful and camp personality to the production. Throughout the show Bernadette has a maternal edge towards Adam especially when Adam starts to cry (“Come to Nana”).
Darren Day playing Tick (Mitzi) tells the story of a drag artist who wants to travel to Alice Springs in order to see his son that he hasn’t seen in six years. Darren with wonderful acting and brilliant vocals brings down his take on the character once Priscilla finishes at Venue Cymru. The role will then be taken by Jason Donovan and also Duncan James later on in June.
With a dazzling array of outrageous costumes and a hit parade of dancefloor favourites, including Downtown, Go West, I Will Survive and Boogie Wonderland, this wildly fresh and funny new musical is a journey to the heart of fabulous and is a must see.
A guaranteed feel-good evening out!
