Ghost – The Musical is welcomed to Venue Cymru this week and if opening night was anything to go from North Wales is in for a fantastic week!
Turning a smash hit film into a musical isn’t always easy but the production of the 1990 film Ghost has made it look easy.
The cast are fantastic and from the opening scenes when you are first introduced to Molly (Carolyn Maitland) and Sam (Sam Ferriday), played in the film by Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, when they first buy their first apartment in Brooklyn, New York. You sense a real understanding between the two with wonderful chemistry throughout the show.
The show plunges into the dark underworld of New York in the subways where Sam meets his murderer, Willie Lopez played by Leo Sene, after a night out with Molly. Sam soon realises that he has died and Molly is in complete despair and the hospital ghost (James Earl Adair) helps Sam understand his new role.
Humour is brought to the show by the brilliant Jacqui Dubois who plays Whoopi Goldberg’s character Oda Mae. Dubois brings a wonderful voice to the show.
At the end of the show the audience gave a thoroughly deserved standing ovation and Carolyn and Sam show that they seem to have a special bond as friends with Carolyn’s cheeky dancing after the bow.
Tickets are still available for performances throughout the week with the last performance being on Saturday evening. You can book your tickets via the box office at the theatre, online at www.venuecymru.co.uk or via the telephone 01492 872000.
